The Product: Vintage cloisonné pot with floral décor
A charming, small-scale, cloisonné vase in the most intense, cobalt blue with pretty, Asian-style floral décor. The metal vase features blooming roses in mauve and turquoise on either side.
The Lowdown
Cloisonné comes from the French ‘cloison’ – meaning compartment. Essentially, it’s an ancient method of decorating metal pots using wires (originally gold) to create an often intricate design, then filling the spaces with colourful enamel paste or vitreous enamel which is subsequently fired and polished. The technique was originally developed during the era of Byzantium, spreading across Europe and then to China, by the 13th and 14th centuries, and Japan, by the mid-19th century.
How to style your cloisonné pot?
The pot would make a perfect addition to a bedside table, in a guest bedroom for example. Add it to any still-life display for a pretty floral element or style it on a shelf, thereby making use of its diminutive proportions.
