Decorative, Travel-inspired Cushions For Your Sofa
The quickest way to update your living room is to add colour, pattern and comfort with decorative cushions for your sofa. Create your own ‘cast of cushions’ for a unique look. Stay away from ‘matchy-matchy’ scatter cushions. What you’re after is a pleasing contrast that works with the sofa, as well as the rest of your room scheme. A touch of the unexpected and even touch of colour clash enlivens and accents a scheme.
Four or five will do. Two complementary pairs at either corner for lumbar support plus one or more central cushions – perhaps rectangular in shape. Remember to layer textures. Creating a contrast between the sofa upholstery fabric, the cushion fabric and any additional throws or blankets. Team linen upholstery with velvet cushions, hand-loomed covers for sofa cushions with wool upholstery or leather upholstery with silk for example. Combine patterns too. Mix up the scale. A large scale upholstery print demands cushions with a small-scale pattern and vice versa.
Finally, quality is key. Handmade, designer cushions last and wear well. They are usually more generously proportioned than their high street counterparts, well-made and satisfyingly fat with – ideally – slightly oversized feather pads. They often have the edge design-wise too. Often in terms of fresh, directional originality. Or, perhaps, in terms of the fabrics themselves – hand-printed linen, tactile crewelwork or hand-woven silk for example. Consider all these things when choosing decorative cushions for your sofa, but above all – go with what you love! We hope you like our selection.
