This complete table lamp comprises of a beautiful gathered silk lampshade, handmade from contrasting panels of a vintage Indian saree, sourced exclusively for us by silk route specialists Samarkand Design. It comes with an antiqued iron base replete with a co-ordinating pale pink cord flex. Only small numbers of lampshades can be made from each individual garment and each shade will differ very slightly depending on how the fabric is cut.
So how would we style it? Well it’s always about contrast. Counter the vintage vibe by teaming it with a clean-lined gloss or matt white metal console table with a simple silhouette. This will showcase and draw attention to the decorative nature of the lamp, with it’s pretty gathered silk shade and scrolling, colourful cord flex.
The assembled dimensions of the lamp and shade are 64cm tall x 25cm diameter at the lampshade’s widest point and the lamp comes with a bayonet fitting (max. 60 Watts). Fix and tighten shade securely in position with the threader ring that screws down on to the bulb holder.
Sustainability and education are at the heart of Samarkand Design, which focuses on improving the lives of each of the artisans they work with, building lasting and positive relationships with suppliers based on the principles of fairness and social responsibility.
