The Product: Sakori green Japanese print cushions in Midori
Green, Japanese print cushions provide a fresh, natural take on a distinctive, timeless aesthetic.
The simple, graphic pattern was first created as a linocut. The design was inspired by a Japanese textile dating from the 18th century. It was created in-house at the Rapture & Wright studio. The pattern is transferred onto screens, ready for hand-printing onto soft, bleached linen. Finally, co-ordinating cushion piping is in plain, ‘String’ linen.
Pair symmetrically on sofas or beds. In contrast, add interest to plain-upholstered occasional or accent chairs with patterned, rectangular cushions. These provide lumbar support. Do check available space to ensure the cushion fits across the back of your seat. High-backed, wing chairs or capacious, modern side chairs are good candidates.
Above all, combine sofa cushions in toning or contrasting fabrics. Layering creates depth and interest. Intense greens – such as this ‘Midori’ colourway – introduce the idea of nature and verdant greenery. Team with bolder, figurative designs or ‘statement’ cushions.
Top tip! Don’t dress your sofa solely with scatter cushions that match the upholstery. These are often optional when buying a fixed-back sofa. Certainly, aim for an eclectic look. Create your own ‘cast of cushions.’ Assemble complementary styles from different fabric houses. Likewise, think textural layering. Most noteworthy, ethnic textiles e.g. South American wovens are available as unique, vintage or original designs. A Rum Fellow and Wicklewood have brilliant ranges to explore online.
Cushions come in two sizes and various colours. See here for alternative colourways. The square cushion measures 50cm x 50cm. The rectangular cushion measures 30cm x 50cm. Cushions have co-ordinating, plain piping, a feather pad, and a concealed zip. Dry clean only. Colourways co-ordinate with the ‘Iznik’ Middle Eastern-inspired cushion collection, also by Rapture & Wright and available through us.
