An unexpected and quirky addition to a smart, daytime outfit, this delicately hand-woven tote bag in miniature will certainly invite comment and compliment. It’s an unusual choice, and definitely for the eclectic dresser, but who wants to follow the crowd anyway?!
Alternatively it would work brilliantly as a decorative trinket box in it’s own right, perhaps on a dressing table, filled with jewels or keepsakes. Or simply as a handmade, decorative object to display on shelves or tables.
And now for a bit of background. Meticulously crafted from the vine of the Lipao fern, this woven Thai trinket box or tote bag showcases the skill and patience of the artisan maker. A plant indigenous to southern Thailand, its fine yet strong fibre was originally used to create everyday items. From the 1700s onwards, the finer examples of this centuries old and unique Thai basketry craft tradition became the preserve of the aristocracy.
The tote box/bag measures 10cm high x 18cm wide x 11cm deep.
