The Product: Woven handbag or trinket box in ebony
This delicately handmade, woven handbag or trinket box was brought back from our travels in Thailand. The level of craftsmanship involved in making this bag is very much in evidence. You’re unlikely to see anyone else sporting one of these as an ethnic-inspired tote in miniature.
And now for a bit of background. Meticulously crafted from the vine of the Lipao fern, the bag showcases the skill and patience of the artisan maker. The Lipao fern is a plant indigenous to southern Thailand. Its fine yet strong fibre was originally used to create everyday items. From the 1700s onwards, the finer examples of this centuries-old and unique Thai basketry craft tradition became the preserve of the aristocracy.
An unexpected and quirky addition to a smart, daytime outfit, this delicately hand-crafted, woven handbag in miniature will certainly invite comment and compliment. It’s an unusual choice, and definitely for the eclectic dresser, but who wants to follow the crowd anyway?! It will also work well as a decorative trinket box, perhaps on a dressing table, filled with jewels or keepsakes. Alternatively, simply display the bag as a charming, decorative object on shelves, a sideboard or a console table for example. Head to Tikamoon or Orchid Furniture for some similarly eclectic dressing room furniture upon which to style it!
The woven handbag or trinket box measures 10cm high x 18cm wide x 11cm deep.
