Marrying the bold colours and skilled craftsmanship of Kenya with chic, Finnish Design, these wonderfully-vibrant, striped, storage baskets by Mifuko are a design statement in their own right. The above images show the small size (with loo rolls!) and the medium size (next to a chest of drawers).
The baskets are also environmentally sustainable, made from sisal and 80% recycled food-grade plastic. They are ethically produced in accordance with fair trade principles thereby helping to support female artisans and their families in rural villages in the Machakos county of Kenya.
The baskets pack a decorative punch with their confident design and vivid colour blocking. They are durable, versatile and supremely practical. Depending on which size you go for the baskets have myriad uses. Think kid’s toys (Lego!), magazines, throws, belts, nappies, and loo rolls even (!). They’d also look great lined up on the lower shelf of a hall console for storing gloves and scarves. Or grouped together as planters for large, sculptural house plants or smaller, tabletop varieties. How about perched atop a French armoire (filled with out-of-season accessories) creating a pleasingly eclectic clash of vintage and ethnic styles.
Individually signed by the woman who made it, the baskets measure:
Medium – approx. 40cm high x 38cm diameter
Small – approx. 30cm high x 28cm diameter
Due to the handmade nature of these products, slight variations in size and appearance may occur.
