The Product: Irish countryside art print Delamont II
Delamont II is a fine art print depicting the Irish countryside surrounding the shores of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. Delamont Country Park is an area of natural beauty which boasts the tallest megalith in Ireland – the ‘Strangford Stone’. The artist, Emma Tweedie, is a regular visitor to the park on trips home to see family. She is particularly fond of this landscape with its rolling hills and ploughed fields that sweep down to the shoreline. The print is based on an original artwork from the artist’s ‘Land’e’Scapes’ series which was shortlisted for the Sunny International Art Prize in 2019. The original is a mixed media collage crafted from linen, up-cycled papers, acrylic ink and concentrated watercolours.
The Lowdown
Emerging artist Emma Tweedie works between rural Northern Ireland, where she grew up and her south-west London studio. Emma creates semi-autobiographical and abstracted works that channel her responses to nature and its calming effects. The finished results feel contemporary and dynamic but firmly rooted in and inspired by the natural landscapes, seascapes and townscapes of her native homeland. Her colour palettes also reflect those she finds in nature such as lichen green, moody blues and turf browns.
The originals, captured beautifully by these fine Irish countryside art prints, were created from mixed media with a sustainable focus. Emma prioritises water-based and non-toxic ingredients. She is also interested in textiles and is a keen ‘up-cycler’. Hence, she tries to use secondhand materials wherever possible in her paintings and collages. These might include old newspaper, packaging materials, vintage fabrics such as Irish linen and even used coffee cups. She is also inventive with her ‘artist’s toolkit’, employing an eclectic variety of materials and techniques to achieve the desired result. Such items as pine cones, bracken, sticks, homemade brushes, textiles and clay paint number amongst the materials she has used to bring her original artworks to life. Styling Ideas?
These Irish countryside art prints are sold unframed. We’d suggest a slim, bespoke, box frame with a wide, white card mount to allow the print to take centre stage. Ensure the print stands out further by teaming white walls with a white frame, perhaps with subtly visible wood grain for texture, so the frame and surround effectively ‘disappear’. Alternatively, a pale wooden frame would compliment the warmer ochre tones in the print. Framed prints, especially those with a generous white mount, will always ‘leap out’ from darker backdrops to greater dramatic effect.
