The Lowdown
Dutch tulip vases came into their own during The Netherlands ‘Tulipmania’ of the 1630s. The ‘exotic’ Turkish blooms were greatly prized and sold individually for vast sums. Cut specimens were showcased in the individual spouts of towering, stackable tulip vases or ‘pyramids’, while the showpieces themselves decorated the hearths and tables of wealthy, Dutch nobles. Furthermore, tulips gained a role in Dutch floral still life art. Head to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to see incredible examples of both pottery and paintings.
Styling Ideas?
This vase is a ‘go-anywhere’ piece. It would make a great addition to a guest bedroom, garden room or conservatory. It would work equally well on shelves or as part of a sideboard display.
